Sewer pressure

A safe choice for sewer pipes

Uponor's pressurised pipes are also highly suited to wastewater sewer applications. The range is the same as for water supply pipes:

  • Profuse, where the PE100 RC pipes have an exterior surface of PP plastic, which forms a protective layer to shield the pipe from dents and scratches. Beneath the protective shell, the pipe is protected from oxygen, so it does not need to be planed, providing that it is welded immediately after the protective shell is stripped. The wastewater pipes are brown.
  • The PE 100 pipes are manufactured from high-density polyethylene plastic. The wastewater pipes are black with brown identification stripes.
  • The PVC pressurised pipe system is manufactured from rigid PVC plastic. The pipes are grey.
Profuse RC (PE100 RC)

The Profuse pressurised pipe system is used to carry fresh supply water, wastewater, gas and various process substances. The blue Profuse pipe is used for fresh supply water.

Profuse components are manufactured from black PE100 RC polyethylene, which is coated with a protective polypropylene (PP) shell during manufacturing. The colour of the protective shell varies depending on the purpose of use of the pipe. All of the pipes have grey stripes to facilitate identification. Profuse pipes are jointed primarily by electrofusion or butt welding, but mechanical coupling can also be used. The protective shell must always be removed when electrofusion or mechanical coupling are used. Welded connections between Profuse pipes have good tensile strength.

  • High breaking strength, effectively withstands mechanical stresses
  • Withstands pressure shocks and shock wave motions, as well as major land subsidence
  • Thanks to the flexible material, only a small number of joints are required for installation
  • The PP layer protects the PE100 RC pipe from damage and scratching during transportation, storage and installation
  • The PE 100 RC pipe can withstand heavy point loads without breaking
  • The pipe is unoxidised beneath the protective layer, so it does not need to be planed (providing that it is welded within half an hour of stripping)
  • Highly suited to no-dig relining methods
PEM (PE80)

Uponor's PEM pressurised pipe system has been developed for water supply and wastewater applications. The material is polyethylene, which is flexible and easy to install. The water supply pipes are black with blue stripes.

The pipes are jointed primarily by electrofusion or butt welding, but mechanical connections can also be used. Prior to electrofusion, the oxidised surface layer of the pipe must be scraped off. Welded connections have good tensile strength. Thanks to the flexible material, only a small number of parts are required for installation as the pipe can be bent into a gentle curve.

  • High breaking strength, effectively withstands mechanical stresses
  • Withstands pressure shocks and shock wave motions, as well as major land subsidence
  • Effectively withstands corrosion and most solvents, acids, bases and oil
  • Low friction thanks to the smooth interior surface
PE 100

The Uponor PE pressurised pipe system is intended for use in underground water connections, connections passing below bodies of water, and pressurised sewer applications. The selection of sizes available ranges from the smallest building lines up to backbone pipes with a diameter of 1,600 mm. The pipes are delivered as columns. The smallest pipe sizes (ø 63–110 mm) are also available coiled or on rolls. The raw material used for the PE 100 pipes is high-density polyethylene (PEH). The pipes are black. The pipes have blue identification stripes.

From an environmental perspective, polyethylene is a safe material for underground pipes: it does not liberate any hazardous or flavour-imparting substances into water or soil. The energy content of the pipeline can be released by incineration, and waste material from the construction site can be sent for incineration. The main products of PE combustion are heat, carbon dioxide and steam.

  • Safe material: no hazardous or flavour-imparting substances
  • Pipes available in sizes ranging from 63 mm to 1,600 mm. The largest pipe sizes are made to order.
  • ø 160 mm pipes are also available on coil
PVC

The Uponor PVC pressurised pipe system is intended for use in potable water distribution, pressurised sewers and various process pipeline applications in pipe systems that are installed underground. The system is highly suitable for civil engineering and industrial uses in applications such as raw water and supply pipes, as well as backbone and plot connections.

The system is manufactured from rigid, unplasticised polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which means that no plasticisers (phthalates) have been added to the material. The system is equipped with couplings that can withstand tensile forces, and it can also be used for installations within buildings. The system includes a wide range of pipes and fittings. The pressurised pipes are 6 metres long when delivered. The pipes have a sleeve with a pre-installed, pressure-resistant seal. If necessary, sleeve locks can be used. Plugs are fitted to both ends of the pipe.

  • Made from long-lasting, odour-free, durable PVC plastic, which does not impart flavour
  • Light and easy to transport, handle and install
  • Good durability against abrasion and most chemical compounds
  • The PVC pipes are 110–630 mm in diameter and have a PN pressure class of PN 10
Sclairpipe

Sclairpipe™, as manufactured by Uponor Infra Ltd., provides outstanding resistance to both internal and external chemical attack. This high density polyethylene is chemically inert to a wide range of chemicals.

Sclairpipe is supplied in a wide range of diameters, including the largest diameter high density pipe available in the world - 63". The available size range is from 3/4" to 63" in Iron Pipe Sizes (IPS) with metric (ISO) sizes also available.

Sclairpipe is available in as many as ten different pressure classes as designated by Dimensional Rations (DR). The DR relates the minimum wall thickness of the pipe to its outside diameter. The maximum continuous operating pressure of a pipe depends on the pipe's DR and operating temperature.
The superior performance of Sclairpipe results from the combination of pipe and fittings designed to work together as a complete system. A full range of pressure rated fittings is available to suit any application.

The most popular method of joining Sclairpipe in the field is by thermal butt fusion, a technique which is economical and fast, permitting the assembly of very long continuous lengths. The thermally fused joints are as strong as the pipe itself, providing a continuous leak-proof system.

A variety of mechanical joints including flanges are also available, which can be used to join Sclairpipe to other items (such as valves) or structures

Welding machine

Hürner WhiteLine HST 300 2.0

The German-made Hürner is a reliable and robust automatic electro fusion machine. It can weld all kinds of commercial fittings ranging from the smallest sizes all the way up to 1,200 mm. The machine can register the welder's identity, what they welded, and when and how they welded it, and the Hürner HST 300 Print + GPS can even determine where it happened – the coordinates of the welded joints are logged to a high level of precision. Outside temperatures are not an obstacle: the Hürner welding machine can operate at temperatures as low as -20°C.

PT butt welding machines

Hydraulically operated PT butt welding machines for pipes and connections made from PE, PP, PVDF and other thermoplastics. The development of the machines has benefited from the company's decades of experience in plastics welding and the demands of their knowledgeable clientele. The PT machine series is designed specifically for field work. The hydraulically operated machines can also be equipped with a separate SDS reporting unit. The unit stores all the information obtained from the welding work.

Automatic ABF butt welding machines

ABF butt welding machines are suitable for pipes made from PE, PP, PVDF and other thermoplastics. ABF machines follow an automated welding process. The entire welding process and the necessary welding parameters have been stored in machine's memory. The user monitors the machine and acts in accordance with its instructions. The automatic control system monitors the work, and if the next action in the program is not executed, the machine interrupts the welding process. All procedures and welding parameters get stored in the machine's memory. The stored data can be printed on paper or into a file.

ProShop rental

A ProShop rental includes all equipment needed for welding. In addition to the welding machines and devices, the program is able to provide welding services in electro fusion, butt and extrusion welding. Our rental devices and equipment are always well maintained and in proper working order. Customised long-term contracts can be negotiated as necessary. Contracts can also be expanded to include welding services or eventual training in addition to machines and devices.

Why does it make sense to train welders?

  • The welding of plastic pipes requires specific expertise
  • Leaky connections are the most common flaws in plastic pipe systems
  • The prevention of connection leaks requires proper training and the right attitude
  • Joint failure can cause thousands, even hundreds of thousands of euros worth of damage.
  • A well-trained plastic pipe welder knows how to avoid the most common installation errors
  • Certified welders are the hallmark of any company dedicated to high quality and skilful work
  • A list of certified welders and companies is available from Inspecta Certification.

In cooperation with the industry's key business and educational organizations, the Finnish Plastics Industries Federation and Inspecta Certification have developed a quality control system for plastic pipe welding.
